Why does the sterotypical word "EMO" suddenly effect teenagers? i mean last 2 yrs ago i he

i mean emo is a type of music and i dont get how they can distort that into becomein your typical "emo kid". they say emo kids dress dark, cut themself, have black hair and sidebangs, and wear tight clothes but how come it just effected this word like last september when i started school? WHY NOW??? half the population of teenagers are "turning emo"!!!!!!

Emo is the music, SCENE is the fashion. There have been scene kids for a long time. It just got pulled into the media and abused like every other fashion. And I don't know what your talking about half the teenage population is turning "emo". Everyone in my school (hell everyone on the freaking east coast) is a abercrombie (AE, A%26amp;F, etc) drone. Scene kids are the ones being made fun of, or at least the real ones.

Don't worry in a year a two it will no longer be in the media (though I'll still be dressing the way I dress because I like it not becuase of what some media gorilla tells me whats cool. Anyway) and you can move on to the next trend.

And to the person above not every "emo" does the things the asker listed. Saying that just proves you are a sterotypical idiot.

its just a fad, like hippies and such =]

it will eventually pass. People are so affected by music (which is great =]) and tv and the media, that it causes sudden fads and trends, like emo

i know, its weird, but thats life for ya

I think that maybe, since our generation (1988-present teens) hasn't suffered through certain social hardships (like, going through the Great Depression, War World 1 or 2, Civil Rights...) we try to make it seem like we really are mature by making our own problems seem more harmful than they are.

I KNOW! it's weird i didn't know what emo was until like the beggining of 2006. and in like the past year everyone has turned emo! it is SO ANNOYING! i don't really think it's stereotypical, because every emo actually does do all that stuff! :D
