How would I tell a 50-something year old the difference between scene and emo?

Theres this scene hair that i want, but he says its emo, mainly because i dont think hes ever heard of scene kids.

hes totally against emo and stereotypes them.

how do i explain scene to him and make it sound appealing towards me as apposed to emo?

I always thought scene was just emo with the introverted depression turned into extroverted excess in order to rebel against the latter without straying too far from it.

You know. Like a less dedicated emo.

But I'm biased against these things.

Unless you take the wider approach, where scene is just thrifty retro alternative.

Scene: longer hair, side bangs,

more blonde and black together,

more kinda cutesy.
