What is your personal definition of emo?

what's your opinion on the emo music, lifestyle, and clothing?

just in case you don't know, heres what emo style is:

Commonly seen elements include dark colored hair, dyed either black, red, multi-colored (brown and black, red and purple, etc.), or an unnatural dark hue, males wearing pants tailored for females, and dark make-up on males and females (most notably black eyeliner, although red eyeshadow is becoming increasingly popular). A common accessory for both males and females is glasses with a dark coloured (usually black), thick rim, a style sometimes even worn by persons who do not require corrective eye-wear.

I don't really have one. Until I started coming to Yahoo Answers, I had never heard of it.

What is your personal definition of emo?

EMOtionally retarded.

What is your personal definition of emo?

I see it in a way as a "softer" outbranch of Gothic style.

Personally...I don't like emo music or style - I don't have anything against people that do, that's fine by me, but it's not my way. I like music for example like metal that's more political - music that focuses more on the world and things outside of one's own feelings.

In my own experiences of SOME (and just some) emo people...I've encountered selfishness that I felt was whiny and unfair - people bent on blaming the world and thinking that they were all that mattered. People also...who'd block out offers of friendship then turn around in the same breath and say "no-one cares about me". I found it frustrating.

But that was just some.

David Bowie all over again.

~Because sometimes it is rocket science.~

What is your personal definition of emo?

I've been actually referred to as a Soft-Core Emo.

I don't go as crazy as some people do but I dress in the style, listen to the music and have the hair and stuff.

I think it's a great way to express yourself.

But I totally don't go for the whole [[cut my wrists and black my eyes]] thing.

What is your personal definition of emo?

Emo has nothing to do with clothes, music or anything else other than your state of mind. Emo means emotional. Some consider me emo, but look at my avatar. That is pretty much exactly what I look like. An emo person usally has just gone through a lot of things ie: parents divorce, mother's suicide, father's abandonment, broken engagement, kicked out of college. Thats me in a nut shell, and that is why people say I am emo. Because of all the things that have happened recently, I have become more of an emotional person, and way more sensitive. Stereotyping emos as punk looking bowie wannabees is just incorrect, as are all other stereotypes. But hey, think what you like, whatever makes you sleep better at night.

What is your personal definition of emo?

Yeah, I agree with the other guy (sorry, forgot the name)... Emo is not about the way you dress or a select group of music.. I think this is why a lot of bands out there hate being called "emo". Because emo is just short for emotional; and you can be emo without dressing in black or dying your hair and without being whiny or thinking that there is nothing in this world except for you and your problems.
